Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library :: Help
Place a Hold :: Catalog Assistance
When all copies of a book or other media are checked out, you may place a hold. Placing a hold is a way to make sure you are notified when the item gets checked back in. In fact, that item will be held for you.
You may also place a hold on an item that is at another branch, whether the item is on the shelf or charged out.
Place a hold when you view the details on books or other media you find in the Library catalog. The Place Hold link is in the left sidebar when you view the details about a book or other item.
Remember when placing the hold to select the pick-up branch. The Library will send out a notice informing you where and when you can pick up your hold.
A hold will be available for pick up 8 days from the date of the notice.
If when attempting to place a hold you get a privilege expired message, you should contact the library to make sure your borrower registration is current and up-to-date.

Other Features
For those who prefer to browse or prefer not to type, consider using these features:
- Find It Fast!. While not guaranteed to be fast, this feature of the iBistro catalog allows you to browse lists of broad topics, narrowing the topic by choosing a subtopic.
- Kids Library. Similar to Find It Fast!, this is a menu-oriented list of topics, each topic accompanied by a picture or illustration. The search through menus is tailored to the children's collection.
Each of these point-and-click tools is available from within the iBistro catalog on the dark-blue toolbar above the Quick Search box.
Staff will answer your questions in person or over the phone. If you need help with anything in the Library, please ask for assistance. If you are outside the Library, consider other options to contact us.
