PRESS RELEASE
Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library Celebrates National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September
September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library wants to make sure that all children and adults in Stockton and San Joaquin County have the smartest card of all – a library card. If you already have a Library Card, here are 52 ways to use it!
Public library programming and the vast collection of books make a difference in the lives of people for a wide variety of reasons. Whether you are a student at school or a student in life, the library provides engaging programs and book choices for people from all backgrounds to become excited and enthusiastic readers.
“A library card has always been the most important school supply of all,” says Chris Freeman, City Librarian. “Today’s libraries are thriving technology hubs that millions rely on as either their first or only choice for computer and Internet access. There’s a lot happening at SSJCPL, and the best part for children, teens, parents, adults and seniors – in these though economic times - is that it’s all free with a library card.”
Activities at the 12 branches of Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library (SSJCPL) during Library Card Sign-up Month include things such as Family Movie Time, Preschool Storytime, Computer Basics Workshops, Video Gaming Day, Unlock the Mystery Book Club, All About Baby, and more. To check what’s happening at your branch, visit our event calendar on our website.
Observed since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month is a time when the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country remind parents that a library card is the most important school supply of all.
For more information on how to sign up for a library card, visit any SSJCPL branch in person, call (209) 937-8221 or toll free at (866) 805-7323 or visit the library online at www.stockton.lib.ca.us.
The Stockton San Joaquin County Public Library, part of the Community Services Department, serves residents throughout six cities and the unincorporated areas of San Joaquin County. SSJCPL Library is also on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ssjcpl) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/ssjcpl)
