PRESS RELEASE
Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library's Adjusted Hours for Both the County and the City of Stockton Branch Libraries
Effective July 1, 2010 there will be a change to the hours of operation at all 12 branches of the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library branches.
For the San Joaquin County Branches, there has been an increase in hours of operation due organizational restructuring and the funds from local city governments such as Manteca, Mountain House and Tracy. After evaluating the needs of the communities served by the county branches and reviewing the busiest days and hours of operation, the proposed change in hours for the county branches as of July 1, 2010 are as follows:

Unfortunately the City of Stockton branches will not see an increase, but a decrease in hours in addition to the closure of the Fair Oaks Branch Library located at 2370 E. Main Street. Due to the climbing budget deficit for the City of Stockton, it has become necessary to not only lay off Library staff members, but to reduce the existing branch operating hours.
“While what we are doing is necessary to meet the budgetary needs of our City, it pains me to have a reduction in the hours and days we are available to serve the community’s literary needs as well as to lose well-educated, dedicated, and hard working staff to necessary layoffs,” said Chris Freeman, City Librarian.
The City of Stockton’s Cesar Chavez and the other remaining 3 branches will implement the following proposed schedule as of July 1, 2010:
