PRESS RELEASE

Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library Announces 2010 Summer Reading Program

With the end of school drawing near, parents may be wondering what activities will be available in Stockton and throughout San Joaquin County that will not only keep their children busy, but also help them continue learning during summer vacation.

“We have the answer here at Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library!  There will be plenty of exciting reading activities and programs for all ages as part of this year’s Summer Reading Program,” said Chris Freeman, city librarian.

Registration will begin on June 1 and can be done in person at any of the 13 branches currently a part of SSJCPL.  The program will conclude on July 31.

There are three themes for three different age groups:  The first theme targets children ages 0-12 and is titled “Make a Splash… READ!”  The second targets teens and is titled “Make Waves at Your Library”  The third targets adults and is called “Water Your Mind… READ!.”

Children have the chance to win special prizes for every bingo card they complete.  There will also be special performers visiting libraries throughout the system beginning June 1.

Teens also have the chance to win prizes with each book review they complete.  If they complete 4 book reviews, they will qualify for an entry form for a bigger raffle prize! There are also other activities for teens including special programs and gaming events.

Adults have the ability to win prizes, too!  By completing book reviews of their own, they can have a chance to win books. And just like kids and teens, SSJCPL was sure to schedule some programming just for adults.  As a sample, learn to garden with the pros when UC Davis gardening experts give their presentation.

Make it a family event. Everyone can join and be a part of this year’s Summer Reading Program.  To learn more about the program log on to www.stockton.lib.ca.us or talk to a staff member at your local library.  Sign-ups begin June 1.

If you are interested in the programming and activities, be sure to search the SSJCPL online event calendar.  Look what’s happening at all branches for all ages or search for your area and age group specifically at www.stockton.lib.ca.us – just click on the event calendar for more information.
