Summer Reading Programs for Children and Teens

(Stockton, CA) The Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library, a portal to all things inspiring and imaginative, invites youth from all over the county to Be Creative and Express Yourself this summer. Those are the 2009 Summer Reading Themes for the Children and Teen Programs. This year there will be a variety of ways for our city's youth to celebrate creativity and to read their way to great prizes. This year's program starts June 1 and will run through July 31, 2009.

The Library is the perfect place to allow children to let their imaginations run wild and to discover great summer reading. To entice young people to use the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library branches, we've lined up a summer's worth of art, music, puppet theatre, magic tricks, gamine, and more.

Anyone from 0 to 18 is encouraged to drop by Cesar Chavez Central Library in Stockton, any branch Library in the County, the Mobile Library, or to go online to sign-up and begin reading your way to valuable prizes, including movie tickets, baseball games, free books, and other fun stuff. Young children unable to read for themselves can participate in winning prizes by having someone read to them. Along with recommended titles for reading, children are encouraged to read anything they want for the program as a way to develop their own interests and a love of reading.

Parents and children are encouraged to register online so they can track their progress and see how close they are to winning prizes. Participants will need to visit their home branch library to pick up their prizes and be celebrated by staff.

To register, visit the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library website at www.stockton.lib.ca.us and click the link on the home page to Summer Reading 2009.

Adults wishing to participate in their own Summer Reading Program will have that as an option this year. Watch for more information about the exciting programs that are scheduled for adults to enjoy as part of the program donning the theme: Create... Imagine the Possibilities!

Sponsors of the Summer Reading Program include Friends of the Stockton Public Library, Friends of the Escalon Library, Friends of the Linden Library, Friends of the Manteca Library, Friends of the Ripon Memorial Library, Friends of the Tracy Library, and the Library and Literacy Foundation for San Joaquin County.
