Library Introduces Free Wi-Fi Service
Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library officially launched free wireless Internet access at its main library and in every branch across the city and county as of August 7, 2008.
Wi-Fi is available to any Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library user with a Wi-Fi enabled laptop, PDA, or Wi-Fi-ready gaming device. "This new wireless service is just another way that the Library has dedicated itself to connecting to the online world," says Library Director Natalie R. Rencher. "By transforming our libraries into Wi-Fi hotspots for the community, we revolutionize our ability to serve people," she added, noting that it increases the ease of accessing various library catalogs and databases and frees up more of the system's wired computers for those that do not have laptops.
Wi-Fi allows our users to connect to the Internet at no cost to them with their own technology devices, giving them the freedom to be comfortable anywhere in the Library while they read or perform research or other activities utilizing the World Wide Web.
A Frequently Asked Questions section can help customers with detailed questions and further information guiding them in the use of this new free service.
While the temporary site at Weberstown Mall does not have wireless Internet capability, the Troke Branch Library will have Wi-Fi service when the facility at 502 W. Benjamin Holt Drive reopens late this year.
