Fair Oaks Library Closes to Receive Upgrades

The look and feel will slightly change as Fair Oaks Branch Library receives some needed upgrades that will include new computers for both public and staff and more computers to better serve our public. Not all upgrades will be seen, but they will be noticed as additional computer jacks, electrical capacity and faster connectivity wiring have been installed in the capital improvement project.

The branch will be closed on Wednesday, October 29 and Thursday, October 30 for the installation of the new technology and an upgrade to the Public Service counters. These exciting improvements will bring the 26 year-old Fair Oaks Branch into the 21st century and will be a direct benefit for the community it serves. The funds for the $65,600 remodeling were appropriated in the 2007-08 Capital Improvement Project and Information Technology Upgrade Project budgets.

All of these upgrades are a complement to the recent addition of the Early Learning with Families (ELF) Center. The new children and family area creates a warm, welcoming and friendly space featuring brightly colored children's furniture and an assortment of new equipment, books, and manipulatives. The space is perfect for hosting the Library's many pre-school children's programs and parent/child workshops led by professionals in the child development field. The ELF Center was paid for as part of a grant received from the California State Library, and with funding from the Friends of the Stockton Public Library.

Fair Oaks is the place to be, but not until they reopen at their regular hours from 12-5 pm on Friday, October 31. A Halloween/Harvest Carnival is scheduled for 3:30 that day.

Fair Oaks Branch Library is part of the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library system and is located at 2370 E Main Street, Stockton 95205. For more information call (209) 937-8221.
