Indian Ocean Tsunami Disaster

On December 26, 2004, an earthquake deep in the ocean off the coast of Indonesia caused a tsunami that brought destruction to coastal areas of 12 countries in the Indian Ocean, killing at least 232,000 people and leaving at least 1.7 million homeless ( http://coe-dmha.org/tsunami.htm). Fatalities were reported in these countries: Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Seychelles, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Thailand.
