Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library
Newspapers
Newspaper articles are available in either traditional paper format or electronic format--sometimes in both. Many newspaper back-issues are available only in microfilm format.
Use the Right ToolHome UseKnowing what is available to you at home versus is in the Library is one aspect of tool selection. Many articles will be available to you at home, right from your computer.* Assume you can access resources anytime, from anywhere, unless noted. A note "in library" beside a title, indicates a resource is not available from home. Newspapers on the WebSome newspapers are available in electronic format, free or through personal subscriptions. NewsLink or NewsVoyager.com are helpful for finding specific papers. Index of Back IssuesRecent issues are easy to find on newspaper web sites. To search back issues, Newspaper Source Plus may help. Some papers, particularly local papers, are not indexed anywhere. Check with the library staff for specific questions. |
Best BetsNewspaper Source Plus includes full-text and indexing. The Record, Sacramento Bee, Modesto Bee, Fresno Bee, New York Times and many others are available in full-text. An index with abstracts is provided to Wall Street Journal and other major newspapers. Index of Back IssuesWhere only indexing is provided, microfilm at the Chavez Library Storage desk provides full-text. Paper copies are available in the newspaper reading area for recent issues. |
