Service Plan

Basic Literacy

FY 2004-2006

The Library will address the need for residents to be able to read and to perform essential daily tasks. The Library will provide a learning environment, specialized materials and access to trained tutors to help adults reach their personal literacy goals.

Goal 1

English-speaking adult learners throughout the County will have the resources to learn to read or to improve their reading skills.

Goal 2

Parents and other caregivers will have resources to foster the reading skills and a love of reading in young children (from infancy up to and including third grade).

Cultural Awareness

FY 2004-2006

Goal 1

Library users will have ready access to a wide variety of resources and programs for all age groups that reflect the diverse cultural heritage of County residents.

Goal 2

Library users of all ages will have ready access to a wide variety of resources and programs that provide a gateway to the world through the exploration of the arts and humanities.

Information Literacy

FY 2004-2006

Goal 1

Library staff will train or assist customers of all ages to use a variety of computer applications. These applications may include e-mail, Internet searching and evaluation of electronic information, iBistro, electronic databases and Microsoft software.

Goal 2

Library staff will train or assist customers in the use and evaluation of Library print, non-print, and on-line resources.

Lifelong Learning

FY 2004-2006

Goal 1

Children and teens will be inspired to become lifelong learners by the development and improvement of collections, programming and outreach activities.

Goal 2

Adults ages 20 and up throughout the County will be provided with a variety of opportunities for self-directed learning, personal growth, and skill development through the expansion and improvement of access to reference and information services, collections, programming and outreach activities.
