Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library
Columbus Day
The Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library will be closed October 10 in observance of Columbus Day.
While many celebrations bear the name of an individual, the pattern is to celebrate the day of a person's birth. In the case of Columbus, we celebrate his greatest discovery. Early on the morning of October 12, 1492, a sailor on the Pinta sighted land. The voyage that had started from Spain on August 3 had arrived at what would later be called the New World or America.
